Today I have been looking at on eBook:
Accelerando by Charles Stross. Free, under a creative commons release.

Last Watch by Sergei Lukyanenko £9.74

The 'Study' Series Bundle £12.61

And
Twilight by Stephanie Meyer. $9.75

Some of these may be more or less impressive in terms of literary merits I'll grant, but certainly the first two are on my 'must have' list. The second two are more curiosity than anything, as they've both scored quite high on Amazon. (Which, despite buying from other e-tailers still does a better job of review/recommendation than the rest).

Also, keeping an eye on Peter F. Hamilton's The Temporal Void at £12.61, but I wasn't so sold on the 'Dreaming Void' that I'm prepared to pay quite that much for it.

Have also recently acquired:
The Terror by Dan Simmons.
I'm about 200 pages in, and it's nicely written, but not a lot seems to have happened just yet.

I've read Twilight, also out of curiosity, and I can't say I really recommend it. It reads rather like fanfiction to me - not that there's anything wrong with good fanfic, but this isn't it. I think it's the air of self-insertion and the rather worrying views on relationship dynamics that put me off. That said, though, if you're after pure escapism I suppose you could do worse :-)

Yeah, I must confess, I'm also thinking 'well, they made a film, and people love it, how bad can it be?'

I know that's not wise, so I might still grab a copy anyway, but ...

I have a paper copy you'd be welcome to borrow (I was curious too!) but I don't know how soon I'll see you.....

I read a bit of background about why the guy apparently wrote it which put me right off. And apparently the film's only good if you're a teenage girl who fancies the lead actor. But that's all hearsay. But not one I'd put on a list to read anytime soon.
