The Dark Knight
This was good.
Go and see it.
If you saw the previous "Batman Begins" and liked it, this will not disappoint.

Not enough tigers in it for my liking...

But the best magic trick ever.

Was that the "making this pencil disappear" trick, because I managed to do that with a beer bottle that I left on my chair once. Never did find the damn thing...

Which had me and the people I went to the cinema with (Maelstrom lot) rolling around laughing, while the rest of the cinema gasped slightly then looked at us strangely. Happened at the 'try outs' bit too.

Was that the English art of understatement?

It was indeed good, but not as outstanding as all the pre-release hysteria would have had us believe.
Yes, Ledger was superbly good as the Joker (very much like in the story "The Killing Joke"), but the film was not without its flaws: without trying to give too much away, I found it to be a little too long and I was very disappointed with how they handled Harvey Dent's character. I personally preferred "Batman Begins" but "The Dark Knight" is still well worth a watch if you have a spare 2½ hours!

An order of magnitude better than Batman Begins.

One of the best action films made, it also one of the most completely realised comic book movies. Gotham is brought to life with extraordinary cinematography and gripping music.

It was a brave choice of the Director, Christopher Nolan, to give the Joker joint star billing. The storyline twists and serves the Joker and makes it appear that he has the resources and strength to equal Batman; A character whose modern interpretation in Comics is that he is not just the finest detective but possessed of heroic levels of ingenuity and martial ability. It propels the Joker to mythic status, an iconic villain shrouded by the tragic departure of Heath Ledger. Is the Joker in the same league as Ra's Al Ghul? Or even a Superman villain like Brainiac or Lex Luthor? In this film he is. List of Batman's foes.

There are some flaws and I'm interested to see how it plays in a couple of years but it has raised the bar for action movies and comics movies. The pressure on Watchmen to deliver has just got worse.
