Children of Men - Ed's journal
Children of Men
This is a good film
The cinematography is very well done. The 'near future' (it's set 2027) is beautifully done, with just the right sort of edges of tech to be very believable.
The characters in it are excellent, and the story line is believeable.
The backplot is introduced very neatly too.

It's also rather dark. All good, and well worth watching.

I had a look at the book by PD James. The film is a loose adaption of the overall theme, this is the synopsis of the book as cribbed from a website:

"The year is 2021. No child has been born for twenty-five years. The human race faces extinction. Under the despotic rule of Xan Lyppiat, the Warden of England, the old are despairing and the young cruel. Theo Faren, a cousin of the Warden, lives a solitary life in this ominous atmosphere. That is until a chance encounter with a young woman leads him into contact with a group of dissenters. Suddenly his life is changed irrevocably, as he faces agonising choices, which could affect the future of mankind."

Credit due to PD James, great crime writer that she is but also credit to the director/screenplay writer Alfonso Cuaron.
