Centralised Computing
UNIX Systems Administrator
A vacancy has arisen for a UNIX Systems Administrator within the Centralised Computing Stream of the ITC. The successful candidate will be able to manage, administer and maintain the UK server farm, with the role being extremely customer focused and requiring liaison with other ALSTOM offices. Additional skills in Networking, project management, documentation & security are also sought. The role will be based in Rugby but some travel will be required.

Key areas of responsibility for this role will include: -
 Support and administer UNIX Server farm.
 Data storage & backup of Windows and UNIX systems.
 Installation of Servers and application.
 Provide 2nd and 3rd line support to the Application and Distributed computing stream.
 Network support including networking aspects of the IT systems.
 Understand IT security aspects related to clients, servers and stand-alone units.
 Licensing, versioning & implementation of commercial software
 Administration of VMWare server.
 Routing housekeeping and reporting for the smooth running of the Datacentre.

The successful applicant will be an excellent technical problem solver embracing a wide range of technologies, able to work under pressure and willing to work outside of normal hours at short notice. At least 3 years experience of UNIX SUN Solaris administration is required, whilst a working knowledge of other UNIX (AIX, HP-UX , LINUX) and Windows operating system would be an advantage.

Candidates should be qualified to degree level and have experience of working in a data centre environment. In addition, applicants should have knowledge of some of the following: TCP/IP, DNS/NIS, whilst some insight of Database management would be an advantage. In addition the successful applicant will possess good verbal and written communication skills and is used to working in a customer facing environment.

E-Hosting Administrator
ITC e-Business Hosting Centre, Rugby

A vacancy has arisen for a highly motivated individual to join the established team within the e-Business Hosting Centre at Rugby, UK.

The Hosting Centre supports over 50 internet, intranet and extranet applications using a range of technologies, for world-wide customers throughout the ALSTOM organisation. These include all of the principal internet and intranet portals along with an increasing number of complex transactional applications.

The successful applicant will be an excellent technical problem solver embracing a wide range of technologies, able to work under pressure and willing to work outside of normal hours at short notice. At least 3 years experience of UNIX system administration is required, ideally this would be with SUN SOLARIS or REDHAT LINUX. In addition a working knowledge of Windows operating system would be an advantage.

Candidates should be qualified to degree level and have experience of working with Web and Application servers. In addition applicants should have knowledge of some of the following: TCP/IP, DNS/NIS, whilst some knowledge of Oracle RDBMS would be an advantage.

In addition the successful applicant will possess good oral and written communication skills and will be used to working in a customer facing environment.

Full training will be provided for the successful applicant and upon completion they would be expected to join a standby and call-out rota for out of hours work.

no harm done in sending in a CV though is it? At the very least it will force you think about and update your CV, at best even give you a job :)

They might just turn around and ask you to do something else for them as well.

I don't meet the requirements, little things like three years experience being the big one. Still I'm game to try.
